The Electronic cigarette User's Story
I'm not going to bore you with the trials and errors I have gone through as a smoker because if you're reading this you are most likely a smoker yourself and you are looking for solutions, not problems.
As a smoker of over 20 years, I can tell you that I understand the guilt and remorse smokers feel about their addiction and their ability to control it.
My biggest fear in life is laying in my premature death bed looking at my young kids, knowing I would never see them grow up. Regret is such a powerful word, and I do not want to regret the reason I would never see my kids grow up, was because I overloaded my lungs with the smoke and tar from tobacco.
I needed something to get me off theses damned things, and I needed it to work for the long-term, not just a few weeks or months.
No matter what I tried to do to stop smoking there was always one reason or another why I did not succeed. To further complicate my efforts, every time that I failed to quit smoking seem to bring me closer to the realization that I was going to be a smoker the rest of my life. If you are a smoker, you know what I'm talking about.
I tried my first electronic cigarette a little more than a year and a half ago. At that time, I had almost "quit" quitting, and I was feeling pretty miserable about the fact I was still smoking. I was intrigued about the idea of getting nicotine through a water-based solution so I went out and bought myself a nice little e-cig kit. Cost me about $70 for a complete kit and some e-liquid.
Not only did it satisfy my nicotine cravings, and also satisfied the physical habit I had with cigarettes, the hand to mouth action and the action of inhaling something into my lungs and exhaling it. An e-cig was a much better option for me as none of those quit smoking products could give me what electronic cigarettes could, the actual act of smoking.
It took me a while to find the best electronic cigarette for my needs as I was a chain smoker and smoked any time I could. My life was full of triggers that would tell me I needed another cigarette.
The first electronic cigarette starter kit I bought cost me about $70 and allowed me to experiment with different flavors of liquid nicotine. It was just a simple starter kit with two batteries and two replaceable nicotine cartridges.
For the first few weeks, I would use my electronic cigarette when I could not smoke. I would use it in the house or at work in the bathroom as a crutch between cigarettes. It did not have the satisfying throat hit that I was used to with cigarettes, so I only used it when I couldn't have the real thing.
It have more than enough nicotine to calm may cravings until he could have a real cigarette. I began to acquire the taste of my electronic cigarette more and more and soon I noticed I was using my electronic cigarette as much or more than my tobacco cigarettes. I was breathing better and saving tons of money. I was on my way to becoming smoke-free.
After crossing that initial threshold, I realized I could easily switch to electronic cigarettes if I had a better quality device and a tastier flavor of liquid nicotine. So I began my search online for the perfect electronic cigarette with the perfect flavor.
I upgraded my e-cigarette to a bigger more powerful device as it this style of e-cig produces heavier vapor and is capable of a much stronger throat hit. It also allowed me to go longer between charging the batteries. It is a little more effort to use as it requires an e-liquid tank to be screwed on top of the battery and filled with e-liquid, but it was worth it.
Now that I had a good electronic cigarette I needed some tasty liquid nicotine flavors to go in it.
Initially when I first started using e-cigarettes, I was not interested in that fruit or candy flavored liquid nicotine, I wanted my electronic cigarette to taste like tobacco. The problem was, I was not looking for a tobacco taste,
I was looking for the taste tobacco has when it is on fire, also called cigarette smoke. There is a difference between a tobacco flavor and cigarette. There is also thousands of chemicals that combine to produce the taste smokers experience when they smoke a cigarette.
Electronic cigarette will never taste exactly like a tobacco cigarette the same way wine will never taste like beer. I had to accept the fact I was never going to find electronic cigarette that tasted like my Marlboros. The good news is this was easy to overcome as I had to remind myself I am addicted to nicotine and not the taste of tobacco.
Once I overcame the difference in taste I started to appreciate the unlimited flavors there were possible with e-liquid. I started with some basic fruit flavors such a strawberry or Apple and eventually started to mix these flavors together to produce my own custom flavors that I was not only proud of but that were enjoyable and delicious.
It was around this time that I noticed the amount of cigarettes. A pack of cigarettes would last me a week now.
I spent several months using my ego electronic cigarette before I upgraded once again to a personal vaporizer device. These e-cigarette types are the most powerful devices you can buy and are typically much bigger and heavier than the other types of e-cigarettes.
With a personal vaporizer, you can adjust the voltage and or wattage up or down depending on the flavor of liquid nicotine you are using. Some flavors taste better at a low voltage while others require a high-voltage to bring out the true flavor.
Personal vaporizer also produce a much bigger vapor cloud then the ego or the basic rechargeable electronic cigarettes styles do. Not that I needed more vapor, but the ability to adjust the output of the device according to the flavors of e- liquid is a huge benefit with me as I am techy and wanted the best e-cigarettes out there.
It is been over a year since I had my last cigarette. I can honestly say that can breathe much better, smell better, and have a better life compared to when I was smoking. I know that I am still a nicotine addict and I still have a bad habit, but at least I am smoke and tar free, and I am reducing the nicotine strength slowly down to zero.
I plan on being completely nicotine free in the next year and using the money that I would have spent on cigarettes or electronic cigarettes to go on family vacations.
If you are interested in electronic cigarettes, I recommend starting with an electronic cigarette starter kit and a few bottles of liquid nicotine. This is a great first step in allows you to use e- cigarettes without investing hundreds of dollars.
If you still need more power upgrade to an e-go type device or even a personal vaporizer. You will want to start with a basic starter kit first so you can identify what features are important to you and what features you do not like before you invest in a high-end personal vaporizer such as the eVic or Provari.
You can also read electronic cigarette reviews online for more information about the different types of electronic cigarettes and their benefits. You can find some great info about e-cigs, and how to use e-cigs here.
Update: I have been using my e-cigs for over a year now and I am now vaping 0mg nicotine! That means I am officially nicotine -free!!
I did brak down a few weeks ago (a few days into my nic-free liquids) and have a smoke. I had a few too mny beers and bummed one off a friend. The smell and taste almost made me puke, I hated the smell and it gave me a nicotine high that was really uncomfortable.
The best part...? I didn't bum any more smokes and I didn't go buy a pack in the morning!!! Yep, I did it!!!
